Psalm 1:6 … “For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.”

The last part of the lasts verse of the first Psalm is about as blunt as can be: “the way of the wicked will perish.”

What a contrast from the first part of this verse. And what a sobering note to complete this beautiful Psalm on. Oh yes, my friends, God wants to bless us. This has been a rather exciting exercise in studying Psalm 1. I’m sure there’s much more we could glean, but in the context we’re considering, it’s been exciting!

Today we’re looking at the last phrase of Psalm 1:5 … “sinners [will not stand] in the assembly of the righteous.”

I love it when teachers beckon us to ask ourselves: “What’s that “therefore” there for?” Ha! So, let me pass that question on to you … what is that “therefore” referring to? Most likely, it takes us back to verse 4 when the Psalmist talks about the wicked who is “like chaff that the wind blows away”.

Such a powerful statement after all these conditions for blessing we’ve read in Psalm 1:1-3! Now we look at what happens to those who DO NOT qualify according to the first three verses.

It seems sometimes people will take one phrase out of a complete thought, all wrapped up in beautiful language and camp out, not putting it all into context. This last phrase is such a one: “whatever he does prospers.”
